Ordering a Repeat Prescription
Please order your medication before you run out and ensure you have enough medication as up to 3 working days is required for the request to be processed. Requests for prescriptions are not taken over the telephone, as we believe this can lead to errors.
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
- We no longer accept prescription requests by email.
- There is currently a 1-week delay on prescription requests.
The NHS App
Order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or NHS website, and have them sent to a pharmacy of your choice.

Pharmacies offer a prescription collection service from our Practice
Your pharmacy can also order your medication on your behalf. This saves you time and unnecessary visits to the Practice. Please contact the Pharmacy of your choice for more information if you wish to use this service.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Questions About Your Prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription, please contact us.
Medication Reviews
The doctor or nurse will need to review your medication every so often to make sure the medications are working as they should and are still the most suitable for you. Sometimes they will need to see you or speak to you to discuss this with you. We may contact you to let you know that you need an appointment before your prescription can be issued.
Please speak to reception at least two weeks before your medication review is due and they will make you an appointment.
Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
