Measles

We have been informed of a confirmed case of measles involving an individual who attended our practice.

We are working in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures and, where appropriate, in consultation with public health authorities.

The risk to the wider public remains low. However, measles is a highly infectious viral illness, and we encourage patients to be aware of the symptoms.

Symptoms of measles

Symptoms may include:

  • High temperature (fever)
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Sore, red or watery eyes
  • Small white spots inside the mouth
  • A red-brown rash that usually appears several days after the initial symptoms

What to do if you think you have measles

If you or your child develops symptoms suggestive of measles:

  • Please do not attend the surgery without contacting us first.
  • Contact the practice by telephone or submit an online consultation.
  • Follow any advice provided regarding assessment and treatment.

This helps us protect other patients, particularly babies, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Measles vaccination

The best protection against measles is the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine.

If you are unsure whether you or your child are fully vaccinated, please contact the practice to discuss your vaccination status.
